FAQs
What are the requirements to study abroad?
For TDU semester and academic year programs a 2.5 GPA is the minimum requirement for applicants. Students must attend advising in the Office of International Studies before applying to any study-abroad program.
Can students take courses in their major abroad?
Yes. Students can take courses in their major abroad as long as they have been pre-approved by the student's academic adviser and/or Chair of Department.
Will credits taken abroad transfer back to TDU?
Yes. All classes taken abroad will transfer as long as the academic advisor, chair and Registrar pre-approve them before departure. Students must also pass the class. All grades will appear on the student's transcript.
If participating in a non-LR program, classes taken abroad will appear as transfer credit on the transcript. To gain transfer credit, the student must receive at least a C for each class. When completing the program application, a Course Approval Form must be completed with the academic advisor. This form states how each class is to be counted toward degree completion (i.e. for major, minor, general education, or elective requirements).
Can student financial aid be applied to studying abroad?
If participating in a TDU semester or year-long program, federal financial aid and LR aid or scholarships will be applied to the student's study abroad program. If participating in a non-LR program, federal aid may count toward the program; however, LR aid and scholarships will not count toward the program. All students applying for and using financial aid need to work with LR financial aid officers to complete all necessary paperwork.
