Beijing is the one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization and historically one of the six ancient capital cities in China.

Situated in the northeast region of China, modern-day Beijing is the nation?s political, economic, educational and cultural center. It is the country's capital city and home to the Chinese government. As the second largest industrial and economic zone in China, it provides numerous opportunities for employment, investment and workplace training. Its traditions, music, art and architecture are the result of 3000 years of heritage.

Beijing has many attractions including concert halls, movie theaters, night clubs, restaurants, museums, palaces, monuments and other reminders of imperial China. The Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and Tiananmen Square are at the center of this incredible city. There is no doubt that Beijing is one of the most interesting and historic cities in the world.

University of Internatioanl Business and Economics is the leading school for business and public relations in China. In 1972, UIBE served as the forum for President Nixon's historic visit, which restored diplomatic relations between the US and China. Today, UIBE's 1,600 faculty play a central role in China's development. Many UIBE graduates are also now playing active roles in government and private sectors promoting business and economic cooperation between China and other countries.

What makes UIBE different?

  • Classes in English at the School of International Education
  • Areas of study: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, Human Resources, Public Relations, Chinese Language
  • One of first universities in China to initiate foreign exchanges
  • Enrollment: 20,000 students, 1,200 foreign
  • Founded: 1951
  • Designated as a "key" university by the Chinese Ministry of Education

UIBE is located in the northeast section of Beijing, 10 kilometers from Tiananmen Square (the center of the city), 9 kilometers from Beijing Railway Station, 25 kilometers from Beijing International Airport and 8 kilometers from the foreign embassy district. UIBE is conveniently located on many bus lines and is not far from the subway. Many famous organizations are situated near the university, including the China Daily, Sino-Japanese Friendship Hospital and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and there are also many shops, supermarkets and scores of restaurants near the campus. UIBE is close to two of the famous areas in Beijing: the Asian Games Village and the Lufthansa Center.

Business courses at UIBE are awarded 3 credits.

The Chinese language courses are intended to work as a unit, utilizing the immersion method developed at UIBE, one of the oldest language training programs in China. Students will take a placement exam during the orientation period to determine their level of proficiency. Beginner-level courses are usually 3 credits each. Advanced-level courses are usually 2 credits each.

Program transcripts are issued by UIBE or Clark Atlanta University (accredited in the USA). Students should consult with the study abroad and/or academic advisor at their university about course selection and approval, credit transfer, and program transcripts.

Internship placement is based on professional interests. Positions are available in business, marketing, finance, communications, commerce law and public relations. A significant portion of your work may also deal with English translation or English-language support at your company. Below is a sample list of companies where KEI students interned in the past. Actual placement may be at different companies.

  • Save the Children UK
  • China Merchants Fund
  • China Talent Group

Housing--All international students live in the Huicai Apartments, on UIBE's campus. These double studios have a spacious sitting room, beds, kitchen, bathroom and balcony. The kitchens are unequipped, so you will need to buy a few pots and plates.

Housing is in high demand at UIBE, and KEI cannot make changes or offer single rooms until at least two months into the semester. Your roommate will be another international student.

Students are responsible for covering the cost of utilities at UIBE - electricity, heat, air conditioning, water and internet. The average cost per semester is $150 USD.

Arthur Liu is the KEI On-Site Coordinator in Beijing. Arthur speaks Chinese and English. Arthur will meet students at the airport, accompany the group during orientation and excursions, and mediate any problems or conflicts you might have. He is available at any hour by mobile phone. He has plenty of experience working with international students, so don't be afraid to approach him with questions about Chinese culture!

KEI organizes several day and overnight trips, as well as an extended excursion. During these excursions, your transportation, lodging, and any group activities are included.

KEI reserves the right to change listed excursions for destinations of equal value and interest. Excursions may change based on availability, local festivals, and interest.
