The DIS European Culture & History program is designed
for students majoring in the humanities. By applying the themes of
Memory and Identity to specific European cities, regions and/or
countries, it will
- Introduce students to current social trends and political climate
- Enable students to identify and classify major works of art and literature originating from the culture
- Provide an overview of the historical development of the region
- Require students to critique the contemporary life and culture through a comparative lens and first-hand observation
Why study in Denmark?
- The Danish academic tradition of a critical,
independent, inquisitive, and free approach to the study of human and
cultural phenomena ? an approach which influences research as well as
teaching. You become an active partner in the pursuit of knowledge,
understanding, and skills
- The special resources
available there: research, exclusive faculty expertise, and intellectual
climate and discourse in theindividual academic fields. Copenhagen,
being the capital of Denmark, offers immediate, privileged access to
national-level treasures ? museums, architecture, scholarly networks,
artistic events
- With its special blend of
?Scandinavian? and ?European? ? historically, culturally, politically ?
Denmark offers a novel perspective on course topics compared to what
you would get at a mainstream study abroad destination
DIS places strong emphasis on combining classroom work with
experiential learning so that students walk away with applicable, real life,
cross-cultural skills for the
global job market.
The program study tours introduce students to salient features of Europe?s
cultural and historical past and contemporary affairs, and support
individual courses.
