College of Arts and Sciences
The College of Arts and Sciences, the largest of the university's colleges and schools, is committed to excellence in teaching and advising, research, and public service. The ultimate aim of the college is to provide students with a solid academic foundation upon which to pursue lifelong learning and build successful lives and careers.
The College of Arts and Sciences, consisting of eleven academic departments and an interdisciplinary studies program, offers seventeen exciting and challenging baccalaureate degree programs spanning Africana Studies, Art, Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, Biological Sciences, Criminal Justice, English, Foreign Languages, History, Mathematics, Music, Physics, Political Science, Social Work, Sociology, and Speech Communication and Theatre. Master's degree programs are offered in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Criminal Justice, English, Mathematics, and Music. The newest degree program offering of the college is a Ph.D. program in Biological Science. Teacher certification programs are offered in eleven of the college's disciplines.
With a strong focus on student development, the college's academic departments augment classroom instruction with several co-curricular activities designed to enhance students' commitment to scholarship, strengthen communication and leadership skills, and to showcase their abilities and talents. These co-curricular activities include lectures, forums, debates, musical recitals, theatrical productions, art exhibitions, and the programs of student academic clubs and honor societies.
